About
Javan Linney
I’m a licensed mental health counselor with a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Central Florida, and I’m currently a doctoral candidate pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology. I’ve had the privilege of working across a wide range of settings—including residential, outpatient, inpatient hospital, and schools—supporting individuals from all walks of life. My clinical experience includes working with challenges such as substance use, anger, men’s issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, behavioral disorders, sexual trauma, and parent-child reunification. I’ve also worked within prison systems, providing essential mental health support to justice-involved individuals.
Alongside my clinical work, I’ve contributed to research at Chapel Hill, Auburn, and USF, focusing on anxiety, trauma, racial identity, and body image. My approach to therapy blends psychodynamic principles with cognitive-behavioral (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques, allowing me to tailor treatment plans to each individual’s unique needs. I place a strong emphasis on building rapport and fostering motivation, and I deeply believe that resilience is born from adversity—living by the philosophy that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
I’m passionate about making mental health care more accessible, more human, and more impactful. My goal is always to leave people better than when they walked through the door. Looking ahead, I’m committed to advocating for healthcare reforms that treat mental health as a vital part of daily life, not just something we address in a crisis
